How do I check the status of my application?: To check the status of your online application, go to www.governmentjobs.com. Log in, click on your username in the top right corner and select "Applications & Status." You will be able to view all of the jobs that you have applied for and the status of your application. The hiring supervisor determines which applicants they will interview.

1. Who do I contact if I forget my username / password for my online account?: You can click on the "Forgot username?" or "Forgot your password?" on the Government Jobs sign in page or call 1-855-524-5627.

2. Where can I get information about current job opportunities with The City of Grapevine?: You may view job opportunities at the following locations:

3. How do I apply for employment opportunities?: You may submit a completed job application online by going to www.grapevinetexas.gov and click "Job Opportunities" on the Quick Links.
Click on the desired position, and then click on Apply. The link will will take you to Government Jobs. If this is your first time using the online application, you will need to create an account and select a username and password. After creating your account, you will be able to login and build an application. This application will be saved so that you may use it to apply for multiple jobs if you desire. Resumes and other pertinent information can be sent as an attachment in the online application process. This is a secure site, and only authorized City employees have access to your information.

Although all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are considered, those candidates whose background, experience and education which are most closely related to the position may be considered first. Due to the number of applications, not all applicants will be interviewed.

Filling a job vacancy can take from four to six weeks or longer, depending on the type of position.

All applicants can check on the status of their on-line application by logging into www.governmentjobs.com. Click your username at the top right corner, a drop box opens, then click on Applications & Status. It will show all of the jobs that you have applied for and the status of your application.

4. What does online access mean to you, the applicant?: You are able to create and manage your own online account from anywhere, including the comfort of your home.
You are able to apply for multiple jobs at one time.
You are able to view and print job postings and job descriptions.
You are able to complete and submit your application online using internet access.
You are able to track the status of your application.
You can choose to be notified of job vacancies by completing a Job Interest Cards for individual jobs or categories of jobs that are not currently open.
You eliminate costly travel time by simply applying online.

5. Do I have to be a US Citizen to work for The City of Grapevine?: For all TCOLE licensed (law enforcement) positions and positions in the City Secretary’s Office you are required to be a US Citizen. However, for all other positions within the city you must be authorized to work in the United States.

6. Is there a limit on the number of jobs that I can apply for?: There is no limit to the number of positions for which you may apply.
If you apply online, you can complete one application and apply for multiple positions at one time.
However, you can only apply for the same job once a day.

7. How do I apply online if I do not have access to a computer?

If you do not have access to a computer, you may go to a public library or the Grapevine Public Library or The REC (formerly the Community Activities Center). The locations and hours are listed below:

8. Can I apply for jobs that are not currently open?

No, we only accept applications for jobs for which we are currently recruiting. These jobs are vacant at the time they are posted or will be vacant very soon. However, if you have Internet access, you may complete a Job Interest Card for job(s) that you might want to apply for when a vacancy arises. This interest card will remain on file or “open” for 12 months. You will be notified by e-mail when a job that you have expressed interest in is posted.

Log in to www.grapevinetexas.gov and go to the Human Resources Department. Click on the link Job Interest Cards and follow the directions to complete the notification request.

9. May I submit a resume?: We do not accept resumes in lieu of a completed application. However, you may attach a resume or other required documents to your online application by clicking the "Attachments" box and click "Add supplemental attachment". If using a paper application, simply attach the required documents.

10. How do I check the status of my application?: To check the status of your online application, go to www.governmentjobs.com. Log in, click on your username in the top right corner and select "Applications & Status." You will be able to view all of the jobs that you have applied for and the status of your application. 11. How will I know if my application has been received?: If you have successfully submitted an application online, you will receive confirmation immediately. If you submit a paper application, you may contact the Human Resources Department at (817) 410-3176 for the status of your application.

12. May I submit a paper application?

Yes.

Paper applications are accepted only for current job openings and are available in the Human Resources Department or by download from our website. Go to the City webpage www.grapevinetexas.gov then the Human Resources Department, and then Forms. Click on the application and print.

Resumes do not serve as a substitute for a fully completed application. However, cover letters and resumes may be included with an application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Processing Applications for Employment.

Applications are issued and accepted for posted positions only.

Applications should be typed or printed (black or blue ink).

Applicants must complete a City of Grapevine application for which they have an interest and must include the title of the position on the application. THE EXACT JOB TITLE MUST BE SHOWN ON THE APPLICATION. (Exact job titles are listed on the Human Resources Department's home page of the City's website under Job Opportunities. The Job Opportunities bulletin is also posted in the Human Resources office in City Hall.)

The application must be completed entirely and all questions must be answered. If a question does not apply indicate “NA” for not applicable.

Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute for applications, but may be attached for additional information. Please do not write “see resume” as a substitute for completing any portion of the application.

Applications and attachments, once submitted, become the property of The City of Grapevine and will not be returned to the applicant.

After Applying.

After applications are submitted they are screened for minimum qualifications. Qualified applicants are referred to the hiring supervisor(s) who determine which applicants they will interview. If you submit a paper application, you may contact the Human Resources Department at (817) 410-3176 for the status of your paper application.

13. How do I update the information on my job application?

For paper applications only, report any changes to the Human Resources Department and provide the updated information.

For online applications, log onto www.governmentjobs.com and update your current application. You will need to reapply for the job to submit the updated application.

14. How long does it take to fill a position?

While every effort is made to fill positions as quickly as possible, many factors determine the time it takes to fill a position including the period of time the position is posted, the number of applications received, and the schedule of the person(s) responsible for screening and interviewing applicants.

After applications are submitted, they are screened for minimum qualifications. Qualified applicants are referred to the appropriate departments. The hiring department determines which applicants they will interview. To check the status of your online application go to www.governmentjobs.com and enter your username and password, then click on your username at the top right corner. Click on ‘Applications & Status’ regarding the status of the position(s) for which you have applied.

15. May I personally contact the individual in the hiring department who will conduct the interviews?

We discourage applicants from contacting the hiring department until they have been selected for an interview.

Human Resources will forward qualified applications to the hiring department. After reviewing the applications, the hiring supervisor decides which applicants to call in for an interview.

Each department also selects the individual(s) who will conduct the actual interview. If you are contacted for an interview, you may inquire as to whom to send a cover letter to, or simply present one at the interview.

16. Will a criminal conviction disqualify me for job consideration?: A criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify you from employment unless the position you have applied for requires that the incumbent have no criminal record due to the nature of the position (i.e., law enforcement).

The City of Grapevine performs background checks on those individuals applying for safety or security sensitive positions as well as other individuals who work with the public. While a criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify you, failure to honestly answer questions about criminal convictions constitutes falsification of an application and will automatically disqualify you from consideration by the City of Grapevine now and in the future. Therefore, you need to be sure you honestly and thoroughly complete all questions about criminal convictions.
