Citizen's Police Academy
About Citizen Police Academy
The Grapevine Police Department Citizen's Police Academy is limited to Grapevine residents free of charge. Residents also include people who work in Grapevine. The Academy is held twice a year, one during the spring months and one during the fall. During the ten week period the academy encompasses, students will have the unique opportunity to see and interact with Police Department personnel as never before. The student will observe all of the functions of this Police Department and see its innermost workings.
Goals
The goal of this academy is to strengthen communications between the department and the community we serve. To provide a safe environment, citizens and police must jointly address issues and solutions.
Basic Procedures
By the end of the Academy, the student should understand basic police procedures. There are various topics that cover the entire spectrum of municipal criminal justice. These topics include patrol operations, criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, firearms training, K-9 operations, use of force issues, plus procedures of the jail, court system, and telecommunications. The student will also learn about the Grapevine Police Department's Community Relations Programs.
Graduation
A graduation ceremony is held on the tenth week, which includes dinner for the student and the student's immediate family. Each class is about three hours long and starts at 6:00 PM on Thursdays.
